Fossil : 91 Timepiece : Gallery 91 New York : 1991

Fossil : 91 was created in response to an invitation by Gallery 91 to participate in the '91 Objects by 91 Designers' Exhibition.

It embodies the idea of a particular moment in time being 'fossilized'. In this instance 9.19 pm. on 9.19.1991 was to be encapsulated within the timepiece during the celebration of the Gallery anniversary. Fabricated from re-cycled milk bottle plastic and re-used LED clock mechanisms, the clock face is sheet molded translucent plastic through which the time can be read as 'buried and fossilized.'

Fossil : 91 touches upon two issues for design during the 1990's i.e ecology and our sense of time in relation to the earth's future.
