Interiors Initiative : Office Concept Initiative : Oakland CA 1983
This 4,000 sq.ft. workspace was sponsored by Interiors Magazine and Modern Mode Incorporated as the Tenth Interiors Initiative.
Practical concepts for new work environments, demonstrating innovative applications of open plan and private office furniture, were incorporated into this prototypical work place.
Conceived as a 'building within a building' the construction was sited within the factory environment with access openings created from aluminum slats. Reception, open plan workspaces, private offices, conferences areas and support areas were planned to respond to the changing technologies of the time and their effect on the hierarchal nature of the American workplace.
The project was featured on the cover of the June 1982 Issue of Interiors Magazine.
