=mc2 Retail Store : New York : 1985

As a collaborative project between the Japanese artists Nob+Non Utsumi and Haigh Architects this project comprises of a 3,000 sq.ft. loft building conversion into the store and offices for a Japanese fashion retailer.

The Japanese merchandising concept of an "Antennae Store" was the basis for this project. This concept findamantality explores responses and provides direct feedback to manufacturers on new and changing trends.

The circulation of shoppers was the prime focus in providing movement and activity throughout the two-story store interior. The "Inochi" or essential substance of the interior is seen to be in balance when this activity exists in the presence of the merchandise. Product is presented in mobile storage displays which provide modular furniture elements.

In an inversion of typical store planning methods, circulation is placed at the window elevation to offer movement visible from the street.

The project was extensively published and featured in the April 1985 issue of Interiors Magazine.
