MODERN MODE

Modern Mode. : Showroom : New York : 1983

This 4,000 sq.ft loft conversion into a Furniture Showroom and Sales Offices for a California based contract furniture manufacturer, incorporates private sales manager offices into an open plan systems furniture layout within a working showroom.

Conceptually, the private offices are established as "rooms within a room" : these "cubes" are juxtaposed at random within the grid of the building structure. Each office volume is then approached as a "tilted" volume supported on a geometric solid i.e. a sphere, pyramid, cone or cube.

Furniture system displays are interspesed within these geometries. Private offices are treated as independant while demostrating the product offering within.

The project was widely published and appeared as the cover story of the December 1983 issue of Interiors Magazine.
