Orient Point Residence : New York : 1981
The unique program for this 4,200 sq.ft. house incorporated a design studio, workshops, presentation areas and vacation home into a US retreat for the a furniture designer, his family and staff.
The principal structure is a wood frame cube oriented to maximize ocean views juxtaposed with a central masonry tower oriented for solar gain.
Conceptually the nine square grid of a 'villa' plan is used a foil for the superimposition of the new program. This rotation generates dynamic layouts for second floor bedrooms with individual decks and live/work areas in an open plan first floor.
The project was reviewed in July 1983 Issue of Progressive Architecture Magazine.
